Frameless and face-frame construction
Frameless cabinets rely on the carcass edges and concealed hardware to define openings. Face-frame cabinets add rails and stiles across the front. Each approach changes reveals, opening sizes, hinge selection, part dimensions, and assembly.
The parts behind the finished cabinet
Typical parts include sides, bottoms, tops or stretchers, backs, shelves, partitions, doors, drawer fronts, drawer-box parts, toe-kick components, and applied panels. Material thickness and joinery determine the finished dimensions of many of those parts.
